Can Balancing Hormones Shrink My Fibroids? Dr Richard Hagmeyer D.C

Can Balancing Hormones Shrink Fibroids. Dr Richard Hagmeyer D.C. Naperville Insitute For NeuroMetabolic Solutions Naperville IL

Can Balancing Out My Hormones Shrink My Fibroids?

uterine fibroidsThis is a question that is often asked when a women comes to our office seeking help for this condition. If one corrects an existing hormone imbalance will this shrink the uterine fibroids, and thus allow the person to avoid surgery? That depends? How big is the fibroid? How many fibroids exist? I had a woman consult us several years ago who needed surgery, after an ultrasound she was told that her fibroid was the size of an orange. So…. In some cases, women with very large uterine fibroids may ultimately need to have surgery.  With that being said, over the years that I have worked with women we have been able to naturally treat them using conservative measures.

If the uterine fibroids don’t shrink but aren’t too large, correcting the hormone imbalance can at least prevent the fibroids from becoming larger. Being that I practice a more conservative and functional approach to hormonal rebalancing, I of course will try to have a woman with one or more uterine fibroids avoid surgery if possible. I think of recommending surgery as a last resort not as the first option. Unfortunately, what I see happening all to often is the approach is drugs surgery and then when all else fails natural treatments. This is all backwards!

In my opinion, Surgery and drugs should only be used as a last resort.

If You Want To Avoid Surgery Follow These Steps

So what do you do if you want to avoid surgery? The first thing you will probably want to do is consult with a competent doctor who will evaluate you properly. You will want to find a doctor who practices functional medicine and one who will look at “THE BIG PICTURE”

In my office we start with whats called a comprehensive expanded female hormone panel. This allows us to get a window into the rise and fall of certain hormones as well as the pituitary hormones. Its vital that who ever you are working with that they evaluate Estrogen, Progesterone, Cortisol,  DHEA, 17 hydroxy progesterone, and the pituitary hormones FSH, LH as well as the cholesterol precursors and thyroid hormones.

I’ve mentioned in the past, it’s best to get a complete picture and not just to look at these two hormones, as looking at some of the other hormones (such as FSH LH) can tell you why you have an imbalance between estrogen and progesterone in the first place.

How Likely Is It To Avoid Surgery With Larger Uterine Fibroids?

I mentioned earlier, some women will want to do everything they can to avoid surgery, and will want to follow a Natural Treatment Protocol for Fibroids and Hormone imbalance regardless of the size of the fibroids. This obviously is only something they can decide to do on their own, but unfortunately, surgery sometimes is the best option.

In summary, women with small to medium-sized uterine fibroids frequently can avoid surgery by following a natural treatment protocol, which in turn will help balance the hormones estrogen and progesterone and other hormones. These hormones are usually the culprit for the fibroids in the first place. However, someone with large uterine fibroids might have no choice but to receive the surgery, and will need to be evaluated on an individual basis. Woman with uterine fibroids who wants to avoid surgery will want to find a doctor who following a natural treatment protocol.
