Is Your Health Problem Caused by Gluten?|Celiac Disease Gluten Intolerance and other Disease Processes you never knew about.
Did you know that osteoporosis, Fatigue, Weight gain, Depression, ADHD, Migraines, autoimmune conditions, Rheumatoid arthritis, Obesity, Psychiatric illness, Reproductive health have all been associated with Gluten Intolerance.
These days more and more attention is being given to a condition called Celiac Disease as well as gluten intolerance. Both doctors and patients are starting to become aware of just how dangerous gluten can be for certain individuals. Unfortunately, there are still too many doctors who are not aware of the research and the proper testing their patients so desperately need .
As a result many people are unknowing consuming dangerous gluten at every meal. What’s even more alarming and concerning is that individuals who have a gluten sensitivity will not always have symptoms of gastrointestinal problems. We know now that gluten intolerance can lead to over 55 different diseases.
The latest research is showing how gluten consumption may lead to autoimmune disease, osteoporosis, and muscle painwithoutdigestive symptoms.
Fortunately new laboratories like Cyrex labs, has been paving the way to helping individuals identify these hidden gluten intolerances.
If you suffer with a chronic health problem that is not resolving, consider these new improved Gluten intolerancetests. These New and Improved tests can help you determine if your Fibromyalgia, Hashimoto’s autoimmune Thyroid, Balance disorders, Brain Fog, Diabetes, Neuropathy, ADHD has gluten intolerance as a contributing factor.
Our office has been using these advanced tests to help long term sufferers get the help they need and ultimately “Reclaim Their Life” with a drug-free natural approach.
Chronic diseases associated with CD and gluten intolerance.
“Besides intestinal symptomatology, CD is often accompanied by extraintestinal complications including osteopenia or osteoporosis and osteomalacia.” [1]
Many neurological diseases and disorders are associated with gluten associated autoimmune processes related to an enzyme our body makes called transglutaminase:
“In this review, we discuss the molecular mechanisms of the tranglutaminases involved in the pathological processes responsible for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkninson’s disease, supranuclear palsy, Huntington’s disease, and recently indentified polyglutamine diseases.” [2]
Even psychological illness has been found to be associated with Celiac disease.
“Psychiatric illnesshas been observed to be a main cause of disability in undiagnosed adult CD” Furthermore, “Our results suggest that depressive psychopathology is a feature of adult Celic disease.” [3]
Furthermore, ADHD-Like symptoms can be caused by gluten intolerance”
“The results of this study suggest that CD should be included in the list of diseases associated with ADHD-like symptomatology.” [4]
“Increased levels of antigliadin antibodies were found in 37% of all rheumatoid arthritispatients” [5]
Recall that gliadin is part of gluten. Gluten is protein that is made from the protein glutenin and gliadin. In my last article, Seven Things You Didn’t Know About Gluten and Autoimmune Illness,
“Migraine“may be also a symptom of mild CD”. [6]
I have found the many of the patients who come to the NeuroMetabolic Solutions for help with their migraines or other debilitating headacheshave gluten intolerance as one of the triggers that made them susceptible to their headaches. Other researchers have stated:
“Our results suggest that a significant proportion of patients with migrainesmay have CD, and that a gluten-free diet may lead to an improvement in the migraines of these patients.” [7]
“Obesityis more common in children with CD than previously recognized. In the appropriate clinical setting, CD must be considered even in obese children.” [8]
Of course, one the MOST common disorders patients complain to their doctor about is fatigue.
“In CD, fatigue is a common finding, which ameliorates with the gluten-free diet and is strictly correlated to depression.” [9]
“CD may have implications on menstrual and reproductive health. The symptom complex includes delayed menarche, early menopause, secondary amenorrhea, infertility, recurrent miscarriages, and intrauterine growth restriction.” [10]
Lastly, one of the most dreaded of all diseases; cancer, is associated with celiac disease and hence gluten intolerance:
“CD causes a certain increased risk of cancer and early death. It is not an innocent condition. This strengthens the arguments for celiac patients to adhere to a gluten-free diet.” [11]
As you can see many, many chronic conditions are related to Celiac disease and thus gluten intolerance. Remember, gluten intolerance is what causes Celiac disease.
